  1. Lily, 10th grade
I was told I had to stay after school for a disciplinary meeting with no notice. I didn’t know I could ask to reschedule or have a parent there, so I went alone. Later, knowing my rights, I asked for a parent to be present and the meeting was moved.

  2. Andre, 11th grade
My manager said I wasn’t allowed to call out sick and still keep my job. I came in anyway because I didn’t know better. After learning my rights, I set boundaries and stopped being pressured to work when sick.

  3. Megan, 9th grade
A teacher took my phone and said I wouldn’t get it back until the end of the year. I didn’t know that punishment had limits, so I didn’t question it. Later, I asked about the policy and got it back the same week.

  4. Carlos, 12th grade
I was accused of violating a school rule and told my side didn’t matter. I didn’t know I could request a hearing, so the punishment stood. Later, knowing the process, I challenged a similar accusation and had it dismissed.

  5. Hannah, 10th grade
I was sent home for a dress code violation without being shown what rule I broke. I missed class and felt embarrassed. Later, I asked for the written policy and was allowed to stay.

  6. Jalen, 11th grade
My job kept scheduling me past the hours I said I was available. I thought saying no would get me fired. After learning my rights, I spoke up and the schedule stopped changing.

  7. Priyanka, 9th grade
I felt pressured to answer questions about something that happened at school without understanding what I was being accused of. I didn’t know I could ask for clarification. Later, I did—and the conversation slowed down.

  8. Evan, 12th grade
A grading error almost cost me credit for a class. I didn’t know there was a formal appeal process, so I waited too long. After learning my rights, I appealed in time and the grade was fixed.

  9. Nora, 10th grade
I was told I couldn’t wear a religious accessory because it “wasn’t part of the uniform.” I didn’t push back. Later, knowing my rights, I raised the issue and was told it was allowed.

  10. Trevor, 11th grade
I was rushed into signing paperwork at work without being allowed to read it. I didn’t know I could ask for time. Later, I did—and avoided agreeing to something unfair.
